Welcome! One thing I have already enjoyed about this class is using Skype as a tool for the classroom. I think this has a strong basis in learning theory for using this as a tool in the classroom. What rationale could we use to justify its usage to administrators?
I agree about using skype as a tool in the classroom. I was able to chat with people throughout last week and the weekend whenever I logged into my computer.
Hello Rachel- I am going to trust your word on using Skype. I am new to using it and I'm just getting started. It does seem like it could be really helpful. I just need to play with it a bit more. I also think you are right in that it could be a very useful tool for the classroom. I don't know how I would be able to get the admin at my school to buy into using it in the classroom considering I can't even access my BLOG from the school. The administration needs to take a technology course!
Its funny you said that. We got a new internet "nanny" program a few weeks ago, and it wouldn't let us access squat because most things were deemed "uneducational." Yet somehow, a month later, we can get back on things like sirius radio. I think eventually if some higher power decides they need it, then we all can get it.
I have taught sixth grade science for about seven years now. The first three years I taught at a Buddhist school in California, before I got my license and ventured into public education. We moved to SC in 2004 because my husband is an auditor, and after Arthur Anderson went under there was a glut of them in the bay area and decent paying jobs were hard to come by.
I have no kids, just four cats at home, a husband, two gerbils and a hamster in my classroom at school.
My dream is to be able to teach online so I can work in my pjs, and move somewhere like Maine or Vermont where there are wonderfully snowy winters.

Hi Rachel,
I have sent out lots of invites but received only a few replies. Has this happened to you as well?
